The Friends of Finnish Handicraft - 130 Years of Finnish Art Textiles
The Friends of Finnish Handicraft is the oldest design company in Finland. It was founded by artist Fanny Churberg in 1879. The aim of the company was to collect folk textiles and apply their patterns to contemporary products.
130-year-old The Friends of Finnish Handicraft produces high quality art and interior textiles. The key product is the ryijy-rug, but the collection also includes embroidered textiles, like tableware and cushions.
These textiles are long-lasting thanks to the use of natural materials and high quality craftsmanship. They are also ecological; for the most part even the materials are Finnish. The weaving and sewing studios are located in Helsinki, but ryijy-rugs are also manufactured by professional home weavers in other parts of Finland.
